Chim Rep Sew a (“hello” in Khmer) my Coastline family!
I am in Phnom Penh, the capital city of 3 million people here in Cambodia (Southeast Asia).
I am working with Water of Life (WoL), (a Calvary Chapel) which is a boy’s discipleship home (the goal is to raise up young men in the Word of God to be leaders here in their own county)...under Water of Life there is a girl’s discipleship home (where I live), one orphanage directly under WoL, several that we are affiliated with and several other ministries that WoL works with.
The people here are friendly and for the most part a very happy people despite the poverty that they are in.
I knew there were lots of different ministry opportunities here but I didn’t know which ones I would be involved with when I came.
The most regular ministry that I do, is out in the province of Takeo (1 ½ hr motor drive). Sothea is a young pastor who started a church and a school out there. I go out there to Takeo every Monday and teach 4 English classes using the Bible at the school. Sothea cannot teach them Bible because the students pay for the English text book, so because English is my first language I can use the Bible. It’s an honor to be able to tell these students about the One True God and about His Grace…and that you don’t have to work to get to Him! And telling them that He is the God who LOVES them!
I have gone several times to “the building” in Phnom Penh where it is famous for its child prostitution and done prayer walks. Sometimes I like to go out to the Rock Quarry where the people live and pound out rock by hand to make gravel…they make $10 per truck load which takes them about 1 month…I like to crush the rocks so that they Khmer (the boys from Water of Life) can teach the people…they also take a meal out to them when they go every Friday. They enemy is fighting hard for the hearts of some of the girls where I live…please keep them in your prayers…I could tell you stories, but it would take too long.|
The government is open to Christianity, but it may not stay that way. This is our window of opportunity to freely share Jesus and the freedom that He brings! ……. The prime minister of Cambodia is close friends with the leader of North Korea…that should explain a lot…. Please keep us in your prayers.
To sum up my time here so far, I would say, my time here is just beginning…. Despite the difficulties, the longer I am here, the more I want to stay and continue to help with the work that is already going on here.
A massive THANK YOU to all of you my family who pray for me and support me! You are a huge part of the work here!!!
May you be filled with God’s grace, joy, and love!
Lana
